"I feel supported"

I have worked at Bampton Surgery since 2019, when I joined as a member of the Patient Services Team.

I have thoroughly enjoyed my time here. I have been given opportunities to further my career with training provided. My colleagues are fantastic to work with and create a great atmosphere. I feel supported by management and feel there is always someone available to answer my questions.

"Do it!"

I joined the practice in 2021 and became a partner in 2022 — and it's fair to say no two days look the same. From seeing patients in clinic and home visits, to acting as duty doctor, supervising GP Registrars, and leading on practice research, the variety is one of the things I love most. That said, seeing patients will always be the highlight of my day.

Becoming a partner opened up a whole new dimension to my role. Alongside the clinical work, I'm now involved in the business side of the practice too. Helping to keep things running through the very real challenges of an ever-changing NHS, shifting contracts, and of course, a global pandemic.

What makes it all worthwhile is the people. Everyone here works incredibly hard, but they do it with a genuinely positive attitude. Many of them have become real friends outside of work, which makes coming in every day that much better. The practice has also been wonderfully understanding about the realities of having a young family, and that means a great deal.

One of my prouder moments as a partner was proposing that we buy two electric bikes for the GPs to use on home visits. It was a cost that came directly out of the Partners' own pockets, but every single one of them was on board without hesitation. That kind of spirit really does say everything about this team.

If you're thinking about joining us, my advice is simple: do it.

"It's a friendly team and a great place to work, just make sure you're happy driving down tiny country roads and not too precious about the odd scratch on your car!"

My days have a satisfying rhythm to them. Mornings begin with patient clinic before I head out on home visits, working alongside the dispensary team throughout. Admin gets tackled over lunch, and then it's back to see patients again in the afternoon. It's a full day, but a fulfilling one.

I originally chose to work here because I live nearby and already knew some of the other doctors, but it's the team that has kept me here. Everyone is approachable, friendly, and genuinely willing to help. There's a real sense that we're all in it together, and that makes a huge difference day to day.

Working in a small surgery suits me well. The close-knit environment means I work more closely with the dispensers and receptionists than I have in previous roles, I've even got better at small talk as a result! I've also had the opportunity to take part in Quality Improvement Projects and make lasting changes to how we work as an organisation, which has been really rewarding.

The practice has been brilliant at supporting my life outside of work too. They've given me dedicated admin time and worked with me to adjust my clinic times so I can get home in time to put my children to bed. That kind of flexibility and understanding is something I don't take for granted.

If you're considering joining us, I'd say go for it. Just be prepared for the country lanes!

"A friendly team who are always there when it matters."

I've been part of the team since 2016, and my role keeps me busy across a wide range of tasks every day. From checking and processing tasks and incoming online requests, to handling new patient registrations and patient deductions, no two days are quite the same. Over time I've also taken on responsibilities previously carried out at our branch surgeries, so the ability to multitask is definitely something I've honed here!

I've spent my whole career working in the NHS, and after being made redundant I took on a number of different roles before an opportunity came up at Witheridge. I'm really glad it did.

What sets this place apart is the people. There's a genuine shared sense of humour across the team, and a real willingness to help one another out when it's needed. The Practice Manager and colleagues are approachable and easy to talk to, which means any problems or concerns never feel difficult to raise.

That support has meant more than just professional help too. When I lost a close friend last year, the team were truly there for me, that kind of human kindness is something you can't put a price on.

I joined the administration team in 2022, and it's been a really rewarding experience, particularly as this is my first role within primary care. Working closely with the GPs and secondary care to support our patients, no two days are the same, and I love it for that.

One of the highlights of my role has been taking on clinic management for all clinical staff. It can be a bit of a puzzle at times, but that's what makes it interesting, and occasionally challenging in the best possible way.
Since joining, I've developed a much greater understanding of medical terminology and the issues our patients face. My customer service skills have grown too, particularly through supporting patients who are going through difficult times, something that requires both patience and care.

I originally wanted a role that was local and offered a degree of flexibility, and this ticked both boxes. But it's the people I work alongside every day that have really made it. The team is supportive, great fun, and shares a sense of humour that makes even the busier days enjoyable.

I've always believed that administration is the glue that holds everything together, keeping processes running smoothly and efficiently, which ultimately helps to improve the experience for every patient who walks through the door. I'm proud to play that part.

I joined the team in 2025 and have settled in really well. I love the variety that comes with the role, moving between the reception desk, answering calls, the triage room and prescriptions keeps every day fresh and interesting.

Since starting, I've also taken on prescription processing, and have enjoyed learning new ways of navigating the systems that I hadn't come across in previous roles.

I previously worked at another GP surgery before being made redundant, so coming back into primary care felt like a natural fit and this team has made the transition genuinely enjoyable. Everyone supports one another, there's plenty of laughter, and most importantly, no question ever feels like a silly one. That kind of environment makes such a difference, especially when you're finding your feet somewhere new.

The support here goes beyond just the day-to-day work too. I recently experienced a bereavement, and the kindness I received from my colleagues was truly lovely. A colleague stepped in to take a difficult call on my behalf, and the team continued to check in on me throughout the day and in the days that followed. It meant more than I can say.

I believe that being a friendly face at the desk or a warm voice on the phone really does make a difference to patients. Helping them feel at ease with the NHS and confident about reaching out to us. That's something I take real pride in.

My journey with Mid Devon Medical Practice began in 2009, when I joined as a receptionist and trainee dispenser. My youngest had just started school, and two days a week felt like the perfect balance. Little did I know it would be the beginning of a much longer, and considerably busier, adventure!

From the very start, the role came with a steep and unexpected learning curve. It gave me an enduring appreciation for GP reception staff, who somehow manage to keep both patients and doctors happy simultaneously; a skill that genuinely feels like a superpower.

As my confidence and knowledge grew, I moved into a permanent role in the dispensary at Witheridge, where I spent several rewarding years developing my expertise alongside a great team. No two days were ever quite the same, which kept things interesting and kept me learning.

In 2018, I took on the role of Site Lead at Cheriton Fitzpaine Surgery, a place I've come to think of fondly as "unique and loveable." It was there that I discovered a real enjoyment for leading a team, even on the days when I was very much learning on the job and doing my best impression of someone who had it all figured out!

An opportunity then arose to combine that role with a new position as Practice Manager Assistant, which taught me more than I ever expected, including how to juggle considerably more than I thought humanly possible. That role has since grown into my current position as Deputy Practice Manager, and I couldn't be prouder of how far the journey has taken me.

It hasn't always been easy, and like anyone, I've had those days where I've wondered whether there might be a simpler life out there somewhere. But somehow, I always find myself back the next morning, ready to go again.

I put that down entirely to the incredible people I work with. Their dedication, resilience, and humour make this place genuinely special. Every patient, whether vulnerable, worried, or occasionally a little challenging, is treated with kindness, patience, and real respect. That shared commitment, along with the bad jokes and endless cups of coffee, is what makes this such a wonderful place to work.

My journey with the practice began at Bampton Surgery, where I joined as a receptionist and administrator. A couple of years later I progressed to Assistant Practice Manager, and by 2019 I had taken on the day-to-day running of the surgery. I had a variety of job titles, all with the same goal at heart: making sure the practice ran well and that both staff and patients were happy.

More recently, following some personally challenging times, I made the decision to step back from my leadership role. The Partners and Management team were incredibly supportive throughout that process, helping me transition into a more creative and supportive role within the practice. I'm grateful for the understanding and care they showed me during that time.

Working in primary care gives you a unique window into people's lives and the very real struggles they face every day. Being part of a team that meets patients at those moments and ensuring that our staff have the support and structure they need to provide the very best care, has been a genuine privilege.

This is a special place to work, and the people within it make it so.
